TECHNICAL - ANALYTICAL SKILLS

Procedural Ability:
As an IT Manager, it is necessary to identify key activities, and to sequence them properly to ensure attainment of project goals. The first question required the candidate to place several statements in an exact logical sequence to represent a common banking procedure. Mr. Donaldson scored 12 out of a possible 12 points for this problem, which was superior.

Error Recognition:
IT Managers are generally responsible for ensuring that the end product meets the criteria described in the system specifications. Question two examined the candidate's ability to read precise specifications, and to identify errors in the application of those specifications. This person achieved 12 out of 12 points, which was evaluated as superior.

Problem Solving:
Success often depends on an IT Manager's ability to solve problems in a structured and controlled manner. Problem three presented a realistic business situation concerning the Credible Car Corp., and asked the individual to recommend an approach for resolving the company's dilemma. This candidate displayed high average problem solving abilities by scoring 8 out of 12 points.

Business Analysis:
Problem four consisted of a series of multiple-choice questions aimed at evaluating a person's skill at analyzing common business practices, and at digesting voluminous information to draw conclusions. The candidate was asked to calculate some complicated invoice totals according to specific criteria. Mr. Donaldson scored 12 out of 12 points, which was superior.

Project Management:
Problem five evaluated the individual's general knowledge of planning, controlling, and organizing for achievement of IT project objectives. There were 15 multiple-choice questions relating to fundamental principles of project management. This candidate demonstrated high average comprehension by achieving 13 out of a possible 20 points.

Planning:
The last problem in the technical section provided the candidate with all the information necessary to create a basic PERT network. Pertinent questions relevant to project completion time, critical path, and "slack" were asked in order to evaluate the individual's ability to utilize a project plan. In this particular problem, the person scored 4 points out of a possible 14, which was below average.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

C.P.F. (People Contact Desired)

This candidate possesses a high average desire for daily people contact, which is essential for the position of IS Manager.

N.P.F. (Emotional Stability)

When compared to our norm group, Mr. Donaldson was found to possess superior emotional stability. For the position, this level is considered very good. Groups constituted of persons of this level of stability or higher, generally make strong teams, trusting one another and free from manifestations of panic and low morale.

Supervisory Practices

The ability of an IS Manager to manage staff is essential for the success of a project. The candidate was confronted with fifty questions dealing with common supervisory problems. In the area of recommended supervisory practices, this person scored in the 66th percentile, which was high average.

Management Transactions Audit

This audit is designed to be an assessment of one's interpersonal transactions and their implications for managerial effectiveness. Mr. Donaldson is adult-like and logical with subordinates, colleagues and superiors. As well, he displayed strong constructive tensions. This is an ideal profile for the position.

Power Management Inventory

This measures why a person values and desires power. Mr. Donaldson displayed socialized power motives, which means he has a tendency to value and desire power for purposes of serving and benefiting the common welfare.
