Purpose

To measure in-depth management potential, important intellectual skills and personality traits needed for successful performance as a Manager/Supervisor.

General Description

This test, from which a seven-page report is provided to the client, consists of instruments measuring the following:
bulletproblem solving and logical ability
bulletfacility with numbers, files, codes, symbols, and simple arithmetic
bulletattention to detail
bulletknowledge of common office terminology
bulletlayout and organizational ability
bulletverbal fluency (communication skills)
bulletwritten communication skills
bulletmemory for words, numbers, names, and faces
bulletcritical thinking
bulletinnate desire to work with other people
bulletemotional stability and tolerance to stress
bullethow a person handles interpersonal situations in an on-the-job setting
bulletappraising supervisory ability and potential
bullethow a manager deals with superiors, peers, and subordinates
bulletreason to value and desire power
bulletan in-depth selection of personality factors. Some of these are:  reasoning, dominance, rule-consciousness, sensitivity, vigilance, self-assurance, self-reliance,  perfectionism, extraversion, toughmindedness, independence, openess to change

Positions for which the test is appropriate

This test is used to pre-screen job applicants and in-house personnel in the following positions:

Test administration

The test requires only clerical supervision to administer and takes approximately 3½ hours to complete. The timed tests must be precisely timed. The untimed tests require no supervision except to ensure that all questions are answered. Candidates should be given the tests in a relatively quiet environment. More than one person can be tested at one time. It is important that the timed tests be timed to the second.

Evaluation

The overall rating is based on scores according to the following table:

Score Overall Rating Likelihood for Success
75-100% Strongly Recommended We strongly recommend this individual as having above average potential for a position as a manager/supervisor.
60-74% Recommended We recommend this individual as having average potential for a position as a manager/supervisor, provided further training is supplied.
48-59% Recommended for Limited Use We recommend this individual for a position as a manager/supervisor only if he/she is highly motivated and if an intensive, well-supervised management training course is available.
0-47% Not Recommended We DO NOT recommend this individual for a position as a manager/supervisor.

Validation Information

October 23, 1996: This validation study was conducted at large supermarket located in the Southeast. The study found a significant relationship between test scores and supervisory ratings. The correlation coefficient (r) was determined to be 0.63 for a sample of 38 management trainees, significant to at least the 0.05 level.
