Purpose
To evaluate the
knowledge necessary for successful performance as a Retail Salesperson.
General
Description
This
test, from which a three-page detailed evaluation report on each candidate is
provided to the client, consists of instruments measuring the following:

Retail
Sales Knowledge: in Part A,
the candidate has to answer 15 multiple-choice questions.

Problem
Solving in a Retail Environment: Part
B contains 5 short problems that require specific answers.

Sales
Logic: in Part C, the candidate is required to follow a flowchart and
answer 10 multiple-choice questions.

Positions
for which the test is appropriate
This test is used to pre-screen job
applicants and in-house personnel in the following positions:

 | Retail District Sales Manager |
Test
administration
The test requires only clerical supervision
to administer and takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. Candidates should be given the tests in a relatively quiet
environment. More than one person can be tested at one time.
Sample
question (segment)
After showing a customer several dozen pairs
of shoes in her size, she asks if you have a particular one in red. Knowing that you do,
you should say:
a. Yes, cash or charge.
b. I think there may be one pair left in red in your
size, do you want it?
c. Would you like this in red? If the answer is
"Yes" ring up the sale.
d. Yes, we have several. Would you like to see one?

Given
the demonstrated relationship between the abilities and traits required to
perform the twelve key tasks of the Retail Sales incumbent (including Store
Manager and Assistant Manager positions), and those measured by the Retail Sales
Staff Selector, the test represents a content valid evaluation device for those
positions.
