Name of Candidate: John Smith
Company: ABC Systems Inc.
CANDIDATE SCORE: 87%
PERCENTILE: 84th
OVERALL RATING: Above Average
The first problem requires the person to follow some symbolic logic and to display the candidate's understanding of the problem graphically. An individual with a high aptitude for programming should not have difficulty here. This person scored 15 out of a possible 15 marks.
The second problem includes seven increasingly complex expressions which have to be evaluated, and simplified, using pre-defined rules. The intent is to evaluate the candidate's attention to detail. This individual performed in a superior manner, achieving 28 out of 28 marks.
The third problem tests the applicant’s ability to follow flowchart logic while altering the value of some of the symbols. The concept of simple looping is also introduced. This candidate scored 9 out of a possible 15 marks.
The next problem is the most time consuming and requires the sorting of three alphabetic lists according to very specific instructions. Although somewhat clerical in nature, it tests one's ability to recognize pre-defined specifications and, subsequently, to apply the correct action. This person scored 32 out of 32 marks.
The final and most difficult problem on the exam tests the candidate's problem solving ability and requires the development of a simple, yet mind-taxing, mathematical skills formula. This person demonstrated poor skills, scoring 3 out of a possible 10 marks.
